生息地域:日本全国の磯場
個体識別:喉は広く白色、目の上下の皮膚は黄橙色、羽毛は黒にブロンズ色、繁殖期には素晴らしい緑色になり、脚と首の後ろに白い斑点ができる。通常、早春に繁殖する。
食べ物:スーパーダイバーとして知られ、主に水面を泳ぎ回り、頻繁に下に潜って小魚を捕らえ、丸ごと食べます。
岐阜県の長良川では、この種を使ったアユ釣りが有名。
勝浦にはこの素晴らしい鳥の大きなコロニーがいくつかありますが、特に素晴らしいのは鵜原湾です。

Identification: An extensive white in the throat, Yellow-orange skin above and below the eye, Plumage black with a tint of bronze however when breeding this turns a wonderful green and they develop white patches on legs and back off the neck. They normally breed in early spring.
Food: Known as super divers they mainly swim around on the surface diving frequently below to catch small fish which they eat whole.
Interesting: The Nagara River's in Gifu Prefecture is well-known for its fishing masters work with this particular species to catch the fish ayu (sweet-fish)
We have a few major colonies of these wonderful birds here in Katsuura that can be seen on the Seafari Tours at various times of the year, especially around the Ubara Island & Ubara bay area. A real favorite amongst bird watcher groups & photographer enthusiasts.
