Identification: Wagtails are easily identified by the way their tails wag frenetically when they walk and also how they fly up and down or side to side, the bird`s head, throat, back, wings, and tail are black and the chest is white often fluffy looking, a small bird often under 20cm, they love to sing with an often buzzy style call.

Food: they love small insects, especially water bugs.

Facts: once they have paired up the males will defend their territory against other males very aggressively, they will also often stay in the same area for many years. During the Winter thought they will often group and can often be seen on mass flying in what looks like synchronization balls dancing in the sky. We like to think of them as the happy chappies of the coastline always bringing a smile to everyone`s face.
